June - July Independence Day features countywide
celebrations. Check local listing for
fireworks display information. Arts in the
Park at Bruce Park in New Martinsville features local artists and
craftspeople with crafting demonstrations, entertainment, and ice
cream for all. Homecoming: Most communities celebrate homecoming weekend in July with
games, entertainment, and eats. Festival of Memories in downtown New Martinsville is held on the third Saturday
in July. Festival celebrates the creation of memories with games,
riverboat rides, and entertainment, an antique car show, and tasty
morsels. August Town and Country Days Fair in
mid-August is held at the 4-H Campground in New Martinsville.
Includes livestock and farming events, quilting demonstrations,
carnival rides & games, flower, vegetable, andcanning contests, crafting, and
lots of food treats.
Live bands perform in the evenings. A Mud Bog and Demolition
Derby are popular with locals and
visitors alike. Veterans’ Bluegrass Festival, held near Hundred, is two days of
bluegrass music in the hills. Venue changes so check local
listings. Food and drinks are available.

Thursday evening at Francis Creative Arts Center in New
Martinsville. September Labor Day Weekend Northern Mountaineer Bass Tournament is held at Fishing
Creek Marina in New Martinsville. Paden City Labor Day Celebration begins on
Saturday with games, rides, entertainment, and food treats
all along Main St. down to the city park. A parade
follows Monday's all-you-can-eat breakfast at the Main St. Fire
Station. October Wetzel County Autumnfest at the 4-H Campground in New Martinsville is a 3-day
event celebrating autumn. There are ongoing demonstrations of
heritage crafts, apple cider and butter making, quilting, spinning,
and basket making. There is entertainment, good food and scarecrow
and giant pumpkin contest. Chili Fest in downtown New Martinsville
features chili vendors, a best chili contest, 5K and 2K runs, chili
pepper and hotdog eating contests, farmer’s market, crafts, and
entertainment on the last Saturday in October from 1:00-4:00
PM. November – December New Martinsville Christmas Parade
is a night
parade with lighted floats, marching bands, hot chocolates,
candy canes, and a visit from Santa Claus to welcome in
the holiday season. The parade begins at 6:00 PM on the first
Saturday in December. |
